Spring is Here! OYGIF

Celebrating spring with Orange You Glad It’s Friday and Friendship Friday Blog Party.

Spring Leaves

Green leaves so soft, so bright, so tender,

Emerging in the first blush of spring,

Bringing forth newness of life,

So fragile, so frail, ever so gentle

With the first bloom of life,

Just waiting to strengthen their sensitive young growth

Into glowing strong armours of emerald delights,

Swaying amidst the elements of love both seen and unseen,

Sharing with nature the joys of being.

Blue Monday

Sharing with Blue Monday. Lots of blue in my pixs. And they are all related to my loved ones. My husband of twenty-seven years passed away Sunday morning, four days ago. So I’m struggling right now and trying to do positive things that might help me feel better. So blue is coming!

This is my husband, Roy, and his daughter Nancy a few years ago when she was visiting us from California. She and my daughter Connie have been a great strength these past few days even though they are not here in Arizona with me.  Thank God for email and Facebook!

Meet Suzie, my psychic/spiritual cat. She can see what’s here and what is “there”. During Roy’s last week at home Suzie gazed intensely way up high in our family room with a seventeen-foot high ceiling and then behind me. I figured she must be looking at those on the other side – spirits who were there helping Roy get ready for his transition. Okay, it could all be my imagination, right? Well, in the last few days when Suzie would be sitting next to me or in my lap she would start staring next to me or behind me and her ears would flatten out, as cat’s ears do when they are feeling threatened or are leary as to what is near them. We’ve had Suzie seven years and Roy was only able to touch her maybe six or seven times. She just was very cautious around him. So this was pretty amazing! It let no doubt that she was seeing my Roy.

Dear, sweet Sparky; she was fourteen years old when she died last year in March. Sparky was off her feed the year before, so I started preparing her meals for her. She rewarded me with happy barking before every meal!

And Mandy was our ball chaser. She loved to race after the ball, position it, and roll it back with her nose. Her accuracy was amazing! She passed away last August when we were in Florida. Mandy was at least sixteen or seventeen years old.

IMG_3975-002

Last but not least is Sunny our outgoing cat-dog. She was born to a mother raised outdoors with several big dogs and ate dog food instead of cat food. And Sunny also ate dog food the first few months of her life. Hence, she has some odd cravings – like eating cardboard! She really knows how to destroy a good packing box, or worse, the corners of my favorite photo albums! But she is so sweet! Definitely a joy to have around.

I know my journey has just started and I have a long row to hoe, but my friends and my faith in God will help pull me through.

Psalm 71:20-21
Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.

Eleven Days ‘Til Christmas

Collages7-001

This year the last two of our pet dogs died – and the oldest ones at that, making this the first time in twenty-five years that we haven’t had a dog.  Mandy died in August and we sort of put her out of our thoughts and mind. But every now and then DH and I would feel so sad and lonely without any little dogs to greet us, follow us and play with us – and just be there!  So one day a few weeks ago the groomer who used to bathe and trim our dogs posted a picture of a little dog that came right to her grooming shop – Laura’s Grooming

. So she posted a photo of the little guy and I fell in love with him – so darling! After talking it over with hubby we decided to invite the little fellow home. Laura said if he wasn’t what I wanted she would take him back until she found someone that wanted him.

When I went to pick him up he practically jumped into my arms! I told Laura he must have some Jack Russell terrier in him to be able to jump like that! Well, to make a long story short, we couldn’t keep him. His energy level was super high, and DH has a multitude of ailments plus advanced age, and Buster (as we named him) would take a flying leap unto the couch – and his lap; scared the heck out of him! Then I remembered we can’t use a doggy door now because of our two kitties. Some neighbors around here let there cats out but I wouldn’t think of it with the coyotes living so close. And DH wouldn’t be able to let Buster out if I wasn’t home so, sadly, I decided (with my head) that it wouldn’t be a good idea to get a dog right now. Very sad. Maybe someone that has never had a dog for a pet won’t understand that, but anyone who has had a dog knows what I mean.

In Memoriam – SparkyRipple 1999-2013

IMG_0345-002

Sunday morning our dear pet, SparkyRipple, died.  She was fourteen years old,  and being a German Shepherd mix, that is a ripe old age for a dog her size.  But it still doesn’t help ease the grief of losing such a sweet pet.  Now she’s gone to cross over the rainbow bridge where Sushi, her dearest friend, will meet her.

RAINBOW-001

When Sushi passed away in 2007 Sparky was so forlorn and sad.  In 1999 when I left Arizona to go to Florida to await the birth of my grand-daughter and to help her mom for the first four months I  really missed our two dogs, Armstrong and Mandy.  So as a surprise for my birthday, my daughter gifted me with a pomeranian named Sushi that we had seen the week before and I had absolutely fallen in love with her .

A week or so later I received a call from my husband back in Arizona and he gave me the shocking news that someone had put a dog in our back yard – a German Shepherd mix!  We had never had a big dog for a pet, so I tried to talk him into taking her to the animal shelter but he just couldn’t do it – he really liked this little-puppy-about-to-be-a-big-dog.  In the end, we kept the dog and named her SparkyRipple – Sparky for short.   So he also was given a dog for a birthday present (we have birthdays just five days apart).  I left having two dogs and came home owning four!

When Sushi and I drove back to Arizona we had a wonderful bonding experience.  She enjoyed traveling as much as I did! The first week home Sushi got along with Armstrong and Mandy right away – Mandy was just a little bigger than her and Armstrong, our only male dog, kept to himself.  But Sushi showed a great interest in Sparky from the beginning.   She’d get really excited and want to play with Sparky but was a little afraid of her big size.  Slowly though she would inch closer to Sparky when she was laying down.  Pretty soon Sushi would go all the way up to her and give her a kiss.  They became best of friends, and as I said, Sparky really grieved when she died and the few times that she would come in contact with a little dog she’d become excited and would want to play and have the same type relationship she had with Sushi.  She had this desire until last year when Sunnie came into our lives.  Sunnie is our white and orange cat who was born and raised outside with dogs the first two or three months of her life.  So she had absolutely no fear of Sparky and won her heart right away.  After that, Sparky’s motherly instincts were satisified.

In the beginning of February Sparky started limping on her left front leg and I took her to the vet.  The vet examined her, all her tests were okay; she said Sparky had severe arthritis and put her on an Ansaid med.  It became a little better in a few weeks but then returned and I had a appointment to go back to the vet’s this week.  Her entire left leg became swollen and she definitely wasn’t feeling well Saturday night.  When I awoke at seven Sunday morning I went to the balcony overlooking the family room downstairs to see if she was in her bed, but she wasn’t, so I went downstairs to see where she was laying.  There she was, laying on the tiled dining room floor, the first room I would go into after coming downstairs.  After moving her back onto the carpet in the family room I stayed with her and she passed away about an hour and a half later.

But,

Sparky’s Spirit lives
In me, in Roy and Mandy
She was such a joy!

Orange You Glad It’s Friday! Let’s Have a Paint Party!

I’ve sold quite a few Zazzle.com products with my pomeranian, Sushi, on them. She was my heart of hearts. She’s been gone about five years now but she lives on and is becoming popular around the world with her picture on magnets, keychains and the like.  Thank you Sushi! And for more splashes of orange go to Orange You Glad It’s Friday

For Paint Party Friday and Creative Every Day I have a fast sketch I did a few months ago and a WIP. My refrigerator was driving me crazy with so much junk stuck on the doors so I took everything off and organized and rearranged some of what was there before – and it looks pretty good! One of things I had was a magnetic strip of a bone, heart, and paw. So I took each piece out of the magnetic strip and had this great stencil of a bone, heart and paw! I’m not sure how to proceed from here. Normally, I’d just use some watercolor or acrylic paint but made the mistake of buying an art journal that doesn’t have thick pages and too much paint or water and the pages ripple terribly! So I’ll probably use stamps and tissue.  Are there any suggestions as to a glue that is least likely to ripple the pages?

As 2012 Ends Looking Back at Some Memorable Moments and Happenings

As 2012 comes to a close I have  much to be thankful for – a good husband, two wonderful loyal dogs, and two sweet fun-to-watch cats.  And then as I branch out to our children, grand-children and siblings,  I thank God for all His blessings  – as, indeed, all our loved ones are blessed and blessings!  We have lost one dear one: Kathryn, our daughter-in-law – much too early, as her daughter, Melissa, is only twelve.  So her dear daddy, Jeff, has a big responsibility of being a single parent.  But she is surrounded by some great influences – her aunts from both sides of her family!

And then, of course, I started my blog last May which means my family has grown even more!  Here are photos highlighting some of the memorablel events and joys of 2012.

IMG_3575-001

In January, not long after Christmas, I took Mandy in for her dog shots and checkup and while waiting to see the vet I started talking to the little kitty cat in the carrier next to me.  She was beautiful! The owner asked if I’d like to have her.  It turned out Roger helps society by trapping feral cats, neutering them, and returning them back into the wild.  But this particular cat was a borderline feral cat.  She was found with five other kittens, two mother cats and several big dogs living in someone’s backyard.  In other words, someone owned all of them, but they all were strictly outdoor animals – and the cats ate canned dog food!  Even the kittens ate the dog food which does not have the nourishment a cat needs to grow properly. So the owner agreed to let Roger take the kittens to be neutered and try to find homes for them.

When Mandy was finished getting her checkup and shots I went to pay my bill and there was Roger with the beautiful cat paying his bill!  We talked some more and I decided to get Sunny (as we named her later) for my husband, as our other cat, Suzi, would not go near Roy and this cat was so friendly I couldn’t resist not getting her!  It turned out Roger only lived one block away from me.   When  I brought Sunny home and Roy met her – and held her – he was elated, too!

She has grown tremendously since a year ago!  She is twice as long as Suzi now and not at all afraid of Roy.  And it turned out that Sunny is a mouser – or – better yet, she likes to catch any little varmint she finds!  So no more bugs – Yay!

IMG_3591-002IMG_0874-001

In Spring I was fortunate to find, after my breast biopsy, that everything is A-okay, no cancer just some fatty tissue (like I don’t have enough fatty tissue elsewhere!).   And my vision has improved greatly in one eye after cataract surgery.  Hopefully in the first part of 2013 the other cataract will be removed and then my vision will be great!

Home is where the heart is – and I love being at home!

IMG_4408-003

And then the fun began – with the great leak that flooded parts of the house and took over four months to repair all the damage done by the water. Of course several truly big floods (hurricane Sandy) happened not too long after that which put everything in perspective for me.

And the good that came out of it was: a new bathroom vanity fitted for Roy and his wheelchair and tile floors in the bathroom and hallway instead of carpet! Yay again!

When I started my blog in May the main purpose was to get the word out that my deceased mother’s home was up for sale – and I planned on having a silent auction. So my first blog was her house and a description of how the auction would work. To make a long story short, no one came to the auction, which was held two days all afternoon.

In Fort Mohave, Arizona    BUT, I kept getting calls from a lady in California (Mom’s house is here in Arizona) wanting to take part in the auction, but had to tell her no since only interested buyers who came to the house could participate in auction. After a people-less auction I called her back, she came to Arizona and bought the house! So thankful!

Shortly after starting Home Is Where The Heart Is I discovered the fun of connecting with other bloggers through memes or parties – especially paint and photo blogs! Joining with other fellow artists and photographers has increased my productivity, and hopefully improved some of my art and photography skills.
